When is bullying enough? (8145 hits)

Anyone been keeping up with the news?

There are cases of children to young adults being victimized because of their s*xual orientation. The result of the bullying was death by suicide.

The newest case of bullying to hit the airwaves is the case of 12 year-old Chatari Jones, who has Cerebral Palsy.

If you are the parent of a child, how would you have reacted?

Any person no matter what age, has witnessed or was a victim of bullying. Isn’t it time to to put a stop to these acts that cause emotional scars later on in life?

What are the necessary steps needed to find ways or initiatives to protect the abused and get help for the abuser?

Thoughts?

This has been going on since the beginning of mankind. When enough is enough? This is so sad.

@ Sister Elynor,
I hear you, because I have only one child just starting out in kindergarten but even martial arts isn't enough these days. When you become a parent think about joining the PTO, volunteering for activites both in the classroom and outside (fileld trips) at your child's school, and get to know the parents of the children your little one(s) go to school with. The major thing is to teach children conflict resolution skills and how to communicate without resorting to violence which should be the last resort.

Regarding your video and blog:
Although I don't condone what Brother Jones did, I do support any parent concerned for their child's safety. The school district has an obligation to ensure that children are safe while in the school's care. Definitely Jones shouldn't be the one facing jail time, but those bullies on the bus, the parents of the bullies, and the bus driver who can't control them and didn't report the chaos occuring on the bus.

@ Jen, I was reading the comments on Facebook in regard to this story, and a lot of people feel the same way.

(God forbid) if this happened to my child, I would want to find out who the parents of the children are and perhaps reach out to them to talk about the problem. If that wasn't feasible, I would have talked to the bus driver about it and let him know that this is what my child has told me in order to find out what he's seeing as well as let him know that I will be talking to the principal. This way I wouldn't embarrass my child, but at the same time I'd let the bus driver and the school know that I was holding them accountable. If all else failed, I would drive my child to school or arrange to have my little one ride with another child to school.

Jen as a school administrator I nearly go a day without hearing stories like these. If I was Chatari's parent I would contact in this order:

1. Bus driver

2. School

3. Parents

If none of those steps work...I would get the local police involved. And we would ALL have an in person meeting, together!

Hopefully with these types of situations getting public attention, then maybe it will be a start to fix this. I believe it will happen

you this is a sad state of emergency.... Children bullying.... i tell you... it's sad and as a parent... I do not want my child feeling that he has to stand guard like a dang minute man... but I don't want him being pestered by school mates.... BUT I do have to make certain that he is prepared to defend himself... and not allow his peers to push him around or intimidate him. I was listening to the news about the young college man who committed suicide because his room mate was video taping him.... COME ON.... what signals are being sent to our youth and now young adults.

I grew up during the time when .... you had better not come home and someone said... I was "a whimp" .... I learned to fight hard and dirty... but as I look over my youth... we were just children.... today.... these kids are packin'.... dayum!!

I BELEIVE THAT A GREAT START IN PROTECTING OUR CHILD(REN) IS TO PUT BACK THE RIGHTS OF BOTH TEACHERS AND PARENTS TO BE RESPONSIABLE FOR THE CHILD(REN)...UNDER THEIR CARE... BACK AS A LEGAL AND MORAL CIVIL RIGHT...

AND I DO BELIEVE THAT THE ONLY WAY WE CAN BE ABLE TO DO THIS IS TO TAKE THE WORDS LIKE ," THE CHILD THAT FELL THROUGH THE CRACK" OUT OF THE EQUASION. (SMILE)

I am hoping taht our supreme court takes and takes first on their docket this issue of 'free speech' which will go a long way to (maybe) get more officals in law and the courts better able to be able to be able to "arrest' provide some form of 'punishments' to take the FUN out of these kinds of bullyings....

because Siebra, I believe that father did try your 1 & 2 and still ended under a legal charge for doing what comes naturally to protect one's children. (smile)
