There are two special events in the Month of October-Domestic Violence & Breast Cancer Awareness (1356 hits)

Did you know that there are just as many women dying from Domestic Violence as with Breast Cancer. Both are crucial and both deserve attention, for we need a cure for both. The only problem is, people do not want to talk about Domestic Violence. I wonder why? We have mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters dying from this horrible thing called DV each and every day, I believe the stats say there is someone being abused every 5 minutes, or less, of each and every day. Help us in the fight against DV.

Ocober is Domestic Violence Awareness Month!!
What have you done to help, or contribute in the fight against violence?
Let us not forget Breast Cancer Awareness.

Sis Vanest,

There are actually THREE special events during October: National Mental Illness Awareness Week runs from October 5 through October 11, 2008! I have been working tirelessly this week to post a Seven-Part Series to raise awareness. Please check out someof theposts.

Did you know that many victims of domestic abuse have an underlying mental illness such as depression? There are also perpetrators of domestic abuse with mental health issues including substance abuse/users.

It was after my mental illness diagnosis that I became a victim of domestic violence. I managed to escape before I suffered physical abuse, but it took quite some time for me to over-come the psychological damage I endured.

I faced manyobstacles getting help to flee because I had a severely disabled child and shelters couldnot accommodate his health needs. I pray that domestic violence advocacy groups remember this fact and include it in their awareness outreach.

God bless you and keep it flowing...ALL year long!
